This two-day itinerary takes in historic Rochester and The Historic Dockyard Chatham

Day 1Discover historic Rochester
Spend a full day in Rochester exploring the wonderful selection of heritage attractions and museums that are on offer. Many of the buildings featured in the works of Charles Dickens, these include the Guildhall Museum, Restoration House and the Six Poor Travellers House.

At 2.15pm from Medway Visitor Information Centre on selected days, take a gentle 90-minute walking tour around historic Rochester with a local guide from the City of Rochester Society (tours are free of charge).

After the tour call into Eastgate House, the house featured in Dickens’ unfinished novel ‘The Mystery of Edwin Drood’ and not to be missed, in the gardens stands Dickens’ writing chalet from his home Gad’s Hill Place in Higham.

Day 2The Historic Dockyard Chatham
Discover more than 400 years of maritime history at The Historic Dockyard Chatham, one of Britain’s leading maritime heritage destinations. A fantastic range of galleries and attractions is just waiting to be explored including touring exhibitions at No.1 Smithery. Not to be missed are the three historic warships, rope making demonstrations and guided tours – including Call the Midwife Experience, led by the dockyard’s very own midwife!

The dockyard is a full-day attraction, but if time permits why not make the most of your day by calling into Copper Rivet Distillery for a drink and tour (tours must be pre-booked in advance).
